If you are getting back into swimming again after some time, then take it easy. Start with breaststroke and do as many lengths as you feel comfortable with.
Then set yourself a development program.
If you are a non-swimmer then your local baths will advise on a swimming coach.
If you can swim but are not entirely confident with your strokes, or simply would like to improve, then watch some of these training videos.
Also find a coach and have a few lessons.
